About Us

Murray Capital is the private investment office of the Murray Family.

Murray Capital is the private investment office of the Murray Family. The business, which is wholly owned by the family, is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland but has an international outlook.

As a family, we have been investing in Scotland and further afield for more than 50 years. Our hope is to provide a lasting legacy for future generations over the next 50 years and beyond.

The structure of the business allows us to take a flexible and long-term approach to managing our portfolio, which spans strategic land development and property, metals trading, wine and investments.

Our strategy is entrepreneurial and capitalises on opportunity, which reflects our heritage and background. We have no sector bias and our preference for new investments is income producing assets that can provide us with a yield, but we will look at capital growth opportunities as well.

OUR 3 KEY VALUES

Our approach to business is defined by these key values we believe in. Those values reflect decades of experience and our gut instinct for what feels right.

As a family business, the way we do things is a blend of two generations, each mindful of their responsibility to the generations to come. It is rooted in entrepreneurialism, characterised by a long-term, patient approach to investment, and underpinned by integrity in everything
we do.

ENTREPRENEURIAL

01

INTEGRITY

We believe the way we go about our business matters as much as the work we choose to do. Doing the right thing is important as a principle, but it also does more to enhance our reputation in the market than short-term financial returns.

Understanding people is more important than understanding balance sheets. Ours is a family business, so we never lose sight of the fact that the way we run it matters to thousands of other families with an interest in our investments.

02

ENTREPRENEURIAL

Our family office owes its existence to entrepreneurialism and our approach continues to reflect that heritage.

The nature of our business has changed markedly in the 50 years since Sir David Murray began trading steel in the early 1970s, but we endeavour to keep that entrepreneurial spirit alive by applying the same attitude and methods to our varied business interests today.

Today, our entrepreneurialism manifests itself in curiosity and an eagerness to explore new ideas, new technologies, new partnerships, new ventures.

In practice, that means not only accepting risk but embracing it. And it is evidenced in our appetite for backing a range of inspirational people with bold and exciting visions across multiple sectors.

03

PATIENT

We take our time. We are wary of fashions and fads because we believe results are best measured in decades, rather than quarters.

We are long-term, patient investors of capital who understand the cyclical nature of markets and recognise that committing to people, companies, and asset classes for sustained periods of time offers the best chance of success for everyone concerned.

We are flexible in the way we allocate capital but are never driven by short-term returns. We believe in working through challenges to create truly sustainable businesses, because we know from experience it is the right thing to do and ultimately leads to the best outcomes.
